A bold decision led me on a path of discovery and growth. The challenges I faced strengthened me, giving me the confidence to take a chance, pursue a dream, and find a greater purpose.
As I inched forward in traffic for over two hours, a wave of frustration washed over me. A drawbridge was out of commission, causing massive delays. As I sat there, I began to question the path I was on. I had been working at a bank for a few years, rising through the ranks. It wasn’t my dream job, but it was a steady path. That day, as I sat in traffic, I realized I wanted more out of life. When I finally got to work, I gave my two-week notice on the spot.
That moment was pivotal because it forced me to recognize that I was ready for a change. I had just gotten married and moved to Montague where my husband, Chad, had started an industrial coatings business. I became the office manager, and together, we navigated the uncertainty and struggle that comes with starting a business. We grew together, and I found myself learning to handle challenges with a resilience I hadn’t known I possessed.
Reflecting on where this resilience came from, I realize how much my upbringing shaped me. Growing up on a dairy farm, work was just a part of life. From a young age, I was milking cows and helping around the farm. My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me. My father led by example—always doing what needed to be done to provide for our family. There was no room for excuses; you did the work because it had to be done. This foundation of discipline and responsibility carried over into every job I took on.
The idea of change lingered in the back of my mind, and I continued to search for what might come next. I had always been curious about real estate. Years earlier, I had even considered it, but with young kids at home and the responsibilities of homeschooling, I didn’t think I had the time to devote to it. I put it on the back burner and focused on my family and the business.
Fast forward to a late night in 2015. I couldn’t sleep, so I found myself on the computer taking online quizzes about becoming a real estate agent—it was a path I was finally ready to explore. The next morning, I received a call from a Coldwell Banker representative who mentioned that a real estate class was starting that Monday, and just like that, I was faced with a decision: do I take the leap or not? I decided to go for it! By the next weekend, I had completed the course and passed the exam.
The first few months were very challenging. There was a lot to learn, and it took time before I found the proper mentorship. I got my first listing in January 2016, and by the end of the year, I had sold 25 homes. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about being a part of someone’s homeownership journey, particularly in our unique market near the lake. Whether it’s helping someone buy their first house, find a vacation property, or sell their current home and transition into a new space, I found my purpose in guiding people through one of the most significant decisions of their lives.
Looking back, my experiences from the early work ethic developed on the dairy farm to helping Chad’s business grow, prepared me for real estate. Since starting my business, I have consistently grown every year! I’m grateful to have found my passion and purpose in real estate.
When not working, I love being with our kids and my granddaughters, Sadie and Lily. Chad and I also enjoy traveling. I have been to 49 states, with Alaska as the last one I need to visit! We also host exchange students, which has been a fun way to learn about different cultures and stay connected with local school districts.
Real estate is more than just a career for me—it’s a passion that drives me to continually hone my skills and deliver the best possible experience for my clients. With a competitive nature and a love for the challenge, I take pride in finding the perfect home for buyers or helping someone transition from their current home to a new chapter in their life. I focus on personalized service, taking the time to truly understand each client's needs, dreams, and concerns. This allows me to tailor my strategies and provide solutions that fit their unique situations.
My love for real estate is reflected in the care and attention I bring to every transaction. I’m not just here to close deals; I’m here to build relationships that last. I stay updated on the latest market trends and continuously seek out new education and certifications to ensure I’m providing the best service possible. I believe that communication and transparency are key, and I make it a point to keep my clients informed and involved throughout the entire process!
Sincerely,
Tricia Carlson
